Getting the Right Power Wire | The Car Audio Blog

Getting the right power is very important when it comes to installing your system. The right gauge power wire could be the difference between your amplifiers working properly or constantly overheating. If the voltage is not correct it will cause your amp to completely shut-off, if the amp has a protection mode. If your amplifier does not have a protection mode make sure you have the correct size fuse, because the results of overheating could devastating. You want to always make sure that your connection to the battery is well protected. Don’t have any wires showing, or exposed to the elements under the hood. Also make sure that there are no spots that could pinch your power or cause it to short out. If your running subwoofers it’s a safe bet to at least go with a 4 gauge power wire; If your system is driving multiple amps you could go with 2 gauge.
