With the Smartphone market becoming more and more competitive, cell phone companies struggle to stay in the news. Determined not to be left behind by Apple and Google, Research In Motion (R.I.M) has partnered with AT&T to release the all new Blackberry Torch. The biggest and most applying feature of the new Blackberry is its slide feature combined with a touch-screen interface. Two things Blackberry users have been wanting for some time now (unless you have T-Mobile of course), that and a new browser. The Torch sports a 5 megapixel camera, which by no means is leading the industry. It’s competitors the iPhone and some Andorid models have up to 8 mega pixels cameras with front and backward facing lenses. The video camera can shoot up to 640 x 480 resolutions, while an improvement from older phone from RIM; it’s still far from leading the industry. The phone is also 3g which I suppose is not a bad thing unless you already on a 4g network. I doubt anybody would switch from a 4g network (Sprint) to ATT’s 3g network just to purchase this phone.
Okay so what makes this phone so special? The answer to that question has to be the universal search feature. The Universal Search Feature on the Blackberry Torch allows you search your entire phone for apps, photos, music, email, text messages, and any other kind of media you have stored on the phone. For us digital junkies who keep everything anyone ever send us, this feature could be the most useful thing from Blackberry since the instant push-email. The Universal Search also provides you with another avenue to get where you need to go on your phone. Thinking, now where did I download that app to? Just use the Universal Search and Wham there it is.
Overall the biggest improve in the Blackberry Torch may not be the phone itself. But most likely the upgrade to OS 6, form any previous Blackberry OS that you had. OS 6 is a big upgrade from those using any of the older RIM Operating Systems; you will find OS 6 on any of the newer Blackberry’s form ATT and other Cell Phone Service Providers.
