Amp Up Your Car Audio System | The Car Audio Blog

Time to put your Bass where your mouth is. The fall is the perfect time of year to sketch out your car audio system's winter overhaul or upgrade. It gives six months to plan it out, build that custom speaker box, and build an awesome amp rack or enclosure. Have been stuck using just one Amplifier to power your entire system? If so maybe it's time to give your speakers a shot of creatine so they show their full potential. How do you do this you ask? Well by adding one or two more Amps to your Car Audio's Energy Arsenal.

For 2010 try going with two amplifiers one for your highs and mids and another for your subwoofers. If you have only be running one Amp in the past you will really like the end result of the additional Amplifier. If your a beginner then you should take your time and learn how to do this upgrade your self. All of your wiring should already be in-place all you'll need is: to get anther amplifier, a electronic crossover, and a 12 volt distribution block. If its possible go with the same type of amplifier that you have now. That way you'll know that both amp's are working at the same level. Match up your wiring, usually its red=power yellow or blue= remote and black=ground.

You want to take your battery terminal and run your main power wire (coming from the battery) into the input of the terminal. Now you use this as sort of a power outlet. Get three more power wires, about 6 inches long (depending on the size of your amp rack) and connect the ends of the wires to your battery terminal. These Three power wires will be used for your two amplifiers and your crossover. Then connect your power wires to your amplifier, then the ground and remote. Next connect your power wires to your crossovers, insert the your rca's from your head unit into your crossovers rca input. Then run rca's out from the cross over to the appropriate amp (one for highs/mids the other for you sub amp). It probably would be wise to have some-one who knows how to do this walk you threw it.

Once you have made this upgrade your system should work much more efficiently. You can always add on a power cap later if you notice your headlights dimming. Usually that's a very good sign that a power cap is needed, because your system is trying to draw more power then available. All this is a pretty simple car audio upgrade. Enjoy.
